Bio:
Dr. Franklin is a senior fellow at the Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Religion at Emory’s Law School and a former president of the Interdenominational Theological Center, the nation’s foremost center of historically African American graduate theological education. He has previously served as visiting professor at the Harvard Divinity School, Dean of Black Church Studies at Colgate Rochester Dividnity School, and program officer in Human Rights and Social Justice for the Ford Foundation. He is the author of Liberating Visions: Human Fulfillment and Social Justice in African American Thought (1990) and Another Day’s Journey: Black Churches Confronting the American Crisis (1997) and a co-author of From Culture Wars to Common Ground: Religion and the American Family Debate.
Franklin earned an undergraduate degree in political science from Morehouse College, a Masters of Divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School, and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Divinity School. He provides commentary for National Public Radio’s program, “All Things Considered,” and has provided live commentary on religion in public life for CNN-TV.
